Hello,

My name is Michelle Morgan Carattini. My 2x great grandparents are

Patrick Hussey and Ellen Doyle Hussey ( my father is George Hussey

Morgan, his mother: Ellen Louise Hussey, her father George A Hussey

and his parents are Patrick and Ellen.)

They resided in Lower Makefield in 1860's, 70's and 80's. Patrick

passed away in 1882. They had 12 children: John, Mary, William,

George, Nellie, Nora, Alice, Margaret, Joseph, Edward, Elizabeth

(Lilly or Bess), and Maurice. Ellen's father is John Doyle who also

lived in the area. Do you have any information on the Hussey's and

the Doyle's? I know they farmed and also tended a loch on the

river/waterway as well as operated a general store. I do have a

photo (at least it is a xerox) of a newspaper article when the

Hussey children had a reunion in 1927. The article is from the

Yardley News sept. 24, 1992 and it lists their homesite as just

north of Yardley near the site of Scudder Falls bridge. I would

appreciate any documents or information you may have. Shall I join

the society?

Many thanks for your help,

Michelle Carattini

Hi Michelle! I'm afraid I wasn't able to find much on yor family

other than what's available from census records and I suspect you've

already seen those. But to recap:

John & Mary Doyle and their daughter Ellen are living in Lower

Makefield in 1860 where John has a "canal store". All three were born

in Ireland. John's youngest daughter Margaret, born 1847-48, was also born in Ireland and I don't find the Doyle's in the 1850 census so they probably came over after 1850, possibly due to the potato

famine. Patrick Hussey was also born in Ireland and was also living

in Lower Makefield in 1860. As of the 1860 census, Patrick and Ellen weren't married but they must have married shortly after since their eldest son John was born in 1861. I couldn't find a marriage record

for them in the Bucks County Intelligencer newspaper.

As you mention, Patrick died in 1882. He didn't leave a will nor any

records in the Orphan's Court, despite leaving small children. A John

Doyle died in 1886 but also left no will and no Orphan's Court

records. So I can't tell if he might be Ellen's father. Bucks County

Intelligencer death notices have only been published through 1885 so

I can't check for a death notice for John. But Mary appears to have

died between 1860 and 1870 and I couldn't find a death notice for her.

The only thing I was able to find was a copy of the marriage license

for your George Hussey. He married Annie McDonald in 1892. I have

attached a copy.

Sorry I couldn't provide more info.

You're certainly welcome to join our society if you're interested.

Information about joining is available on our website.
