Title:

Women Who Served: Women’s Military Contributions Since the American Revolution

Subject:

More than three million women have served our nation since the American Revolution - long before they were officially recognized as members of the Armed Forces. As we approach the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, this presentation explores some of the stories of women who contributed to the founding of our nation. Some served on the battlefield as nurses, cooks, and laundresses, while others disguised themselves as men to fight.

Yet many of these stories - and those of women who served in the centuries that followed - remain undocumented or overlooked. This program highlights their contributions and introduces the work of the Military Women’s Memorial, which is dedicated to honoring these women, educating the public, and preserving their legacies through its national database, the Register.
