Title:

Newspapers As Genealogical and Social History Resources

Subject: This presentation introduces newspapers as valuable genealogical and social‑history resources, showing how they provide context, detail, and insight beyond traditional record sets. Using a real case study, Gideon Hill demonstrates how newspaper research helped resolve a family mystery, illustrating the practical value of small notices, local reporting, and community information. The session also highlights the use of timelines as analytical tools, showing how organizing newspaper findings chronologically can clarify events, resolve contradictions, and untangle genealogical problems. Attendees will gain practical strategies for locating, interpreting, and integrating newspaper evidence into their own research.
