I am trying to find out if there is a link between the Gilbert family of Warminster and the Fairchild family of Luzerne County. According to the information I have found: Nicholas Gilbert(about 1720 to 1782) married Esther Craven(1725-1804)in Bucks County in 1746 and had a daughter Elizabeth Gilbert; Elizabeth married John Lutsey(from Germany) and/or Joseph Hart(Warminster PA); Elizabeth and John Lutsey had a daughter Elizabeth Lutsey who married Solomon Fairchild.

Do you have any information that will clarify this question about the marriage of Elizabeth Gilbert to John Lutsey and/or Joseph Hart?

This of course assumes that the other information is correct.

Thank you,

The Nicholas who died in 1762 left a will naming children Joseph and Samuel Gilbert and Mary Jones, and deceased children Jacob, Peter and Benjamin. He further names several grandchildren. So this doesn't appear to be the Nicholas you're looking for.

The Nicholas who died in 1765 died intestate. In 1772 his estate was settled by the Bucks County Orphan's Court. Those records name his heirs as widow Esther and children Nathan (age 22), Elizabeth (age 24, wife of Joseph Hart of Warminster), Hannah and Rachel (twins, age 18), Edith (age 15) and Elias (age 11) and Alice (age 8). The children's uncle Giles Craven petitioned the court on their behalf.

So this proves that Nicholas & Esther (Craven) Gilbert's daughter Elizabeth married Joseph Hart and not John Lutsey. Unfortunately, when I look at Joseph & Elizabeth (Gilbert) Hart, I don't see a connection to the Fairchild family. According to Davis' History of Bucks County, Joseph & Elizabeth (Gilbert) Hart's daughter Elizabeth was born 11/2/1777 and married 1st Jonathan Conrad and 2nd Samuel Croasdale. I don't see any connection to either the Lutsey or Fairchild families from the Joseph Hart family.

According to information posted on Rootsweb (which always needs to be taken with a grain of salt), Elizabeth (Gilbert) Lutsey, the mother was Elizabeth (Lutsey) Fairchild, was born in Westchester Co, NY. I can't verify that. But it seems pretty clear that she was not the daughter of Nicholas Gilbert of Warminster Twp, Bucks Co.

Sorry I don't have better news for you.

I have no info that links Elizabeth Gilbert, my 3rd great grand-aunt, to John Lutsey. Her mother's will, on file at the Bucks County Historical Society, mentions her as Elizabeth Hart. Have you searched for John Lutsey by himself?
