When: Saturday, October 6, 10 am to 12 noon
Where: David Library of the American Revolution
Subject: House Histories: Your Ancestor's Life Uncovered
Reconstructing ancestral properties and houses gives your ancestors a virtual footprint in the present.  Whether the house and property currently exist as they did during your ancestor's lifetime, or have been completely redeveloped, land records and other significant documents can be used to recreate what once existed.  Additional archival records are used to give details to the framework, developing a constructed view of your ancestor's story.  Discussion includes multiple advantages and various purposes to developing house histories, an attack plan, relevant documents, repositories, and how to put it all together.  Case study examples for Pennsylvania and New Jersey will be incorporated into the presentation.
Speaker: Lorraine Arnold, House Historian and Genealogist
Lorraine Arnold is the owner of Legacy Roots, LLC, specializing in accurate legal, genealogical, historical, biographical research and individual consultation during all phases of investigation.  Having over 30 years of experience, Lorraine focuses on the difficult to solve cases - finding Mr. Smith in a probate case in less than 24 hours; searching for unsold ancestral property dating back to 1828 in New Jersey; and weeding through the Stover family legacy to determine ownership of the Evermay on the Delaware.

Lorraine blogs regularly on her websites Legacy Roots, NY House Histories, and Historic NJ Homes; develops personalized bound house history books & documented reports; and is currently writing a book on researching and developing house histories.  An article written earlier this year for the Genealogical Society of New Jersey, Bringing Ancestors to Life Using House Histories, will be Lorraine's speaking topic at The Genealogy Event in New York City in late October of this year.  Lorraine has an AAS paralegal degree and a BA in jurisprudence.
