Records, Records, Who Has the Records??

New Project Launched!

Photo goes here With its distinction as one of the earliest settlement areas in the mid-Atlantic region, the area of Bucks and surrounding counties is dotted with local historical and genealogical societies. These organizations, supported by individuals who are knowledgeable and passionate about their local history, often have collections of documents and records that have never been digitized or even published, but contain treasure troves of information for family historians and other researchers. Our new project will gather information about these small repositories, as well as other sources of genealogical information, and make it available to researchers who visit our website. The new project will be spearheaded by our VP of Projects and Research Joann Cosgrove and our chief project volunteer Peg Felter.

We are asking our members who live in Bucks County or surrounding counties to volunteer to visit a repository to learn about its resources, and to complete and submit a data form that we can use to build our database of resources that may be of interest to our members. Below is a list of the organizations which we have identified to this point, with an indication of whether any volunteer has already selected it for a visit. If you see an organization listed with no volunteer, please send an email to Joann Cosgrove at projects@bucksgen.org, letting her know that you would like to volunteer to visit that repository and complete a Repository Data form. If you know of an organization that is not listed, you can email Joann and request that it be added to our list.

You can download our Repository Data Form here. This is a fillable PDF document, which you can download to your computer, fill it out there and and save it.

If you can, please take a photo of the front of the building with the sign visible, to be displayed on the page along with the information you have collected. You will be able to upload the digital photo file when you submit the data form. If you take additional photos, you can submit them by emailing them to Joann Cosgrove at projects@bucksgen.org.

Once you have completed the form, you can submit it to the project by clicking here. If you would prefer, you can print out the blank form, fill it out by hand and mail it or hand it in at a BCGS meeting.
