NY City Vital Records Indexes in books, microfilm and online - births, deaths, marriages and divorces.
Census - US Census 1790-1940, NY State Census 1855-1925, 1890 New York City Police Census.
Naturalization Records - Via Fold3 and Ancestry and microfilm.
City Directories through 1930's. Mary are digitized and available online: digitalcollections.nypl.org/search/index?utf8=%E2%9C%93&keywords=city+directories
Family histories and periodicals. Go to catalog.nypl.org/search. Then select search by "subject" and in search bar type your surname followed by "family clippings".
