Title:  False News, Profane Speakers and Disobedient Children: Early Pennsylvania Laws

On July 13, 2021, the Bucks County Genealogical Society is sponsoring a free evening lecture as part of the Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh (GRIP). This lecture is open to the public.

The laws our ancestors lived by tell their own story of life in earlier times, and, from the very first colonial statutes to today, the choices made by legislators about what laws were needed give a rich and deep context to family history. Using Pennsylvania’s early state laws as genealogical resources, we’re able to tell the stories of a time when the “big concerns” of the day were things like spreading rumors, foul language and disobedient children.

Speaker:  Judy Russell, J.D., CG, CGL
